Arsenal keeper Lukasz Fabianski has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a troublesome shoulder problem.
The Polish international has been struggling with the injury for weeks and aggravated it during the warm-up for the game against Manchester City on 5 January.
Although he played in that game, he has not featured since and his rehabilitation has not gone as well as planned.
"The doctors expect me to take a long break," Fabianski said. "But we'll see if that will happen."
Fabianski’s absence gives his compatriot Wojciech Szczesny a chance to establish himself as the number one at Arsenal, having already been told by manager Arsene Wenger that he is ahead of Fabianski and Spaniard Manuel Almunia in the pecking order at the Emirates.
Almunia started the season as number one but has suffered with injuries and poor form, while Szczesny has started seven times since the City game and has conceded only four goals.
