Ashley Cole has been left out of England’s World Cup squad by Roy Hodgson and immediately confirmed his retirement from international football.
The 33-year-old was told by Hodgson that Leighton Baines and Luke Shaw would be going to Brazil.
The Chelsea left-back, who has 107 caps, turned down the chance to go on stand-by and announced his retirement late on Sunday night.
I got the call from Roy and agree England team should be about the young players. I think it best I retire from England team now.
