Bookies now have Neil Lennon as favourite to be the next Everton boss

They got the Fergie/Moyes news spot on and now the bookies reckon that the Celtic boss is on the way to Goodison.

They got the Fergie/Moyes news spot on and now the bookies reckon that the Celtic boss is on the way to Goodison.

It has been a crazy week in football across the water. Two of the three longest standing managers in the Premier League have left their jobs and Wayne Rooney is pondering moving too. We may never see a week like it again.

And the open slot in the Everton bench means the speculation is nowhere near done yet. We know that David Moyes will stay at Goodison until the end of the season but the search for a replacement is on.

Yesterday, Toffees chairman Bill Kenwright said:”Everton supporters are no fools, they took to David Moyes instantly. I will be looking to those supporters, not to get individual names, to get the guidance that true football fans can give to its chairman and its football club. You can’t individually poll each of them, but it is important that they get the right man.

“Of course it’s important that the football club gets the right man, but they know the adventure they have had for 11 years and they don’t want that to stop. They want it to continue and continue to grow, that’s vital for them. It’s a very important time of my life, to see that they are not let down. I don’t want to see Evertonians let down.”

And it seems that man is current Celtic boss Neil Lennon. After beginning the week at odds of 12/1 to replace Moyes, Lennon is now the favourite with all the books at 4/7 after ‘significant’ betting overnight.

Roberto Martinez, the early favourite, is now second while the next in line is Phil Neville at 12s. We would normally be a bit sceptical about managerial markets but after the week we’ve had, this may well be the first sign of some bad news for Celtic fans.
