Bristol Rovers were forced into a public apology yesterday after incorrectly publishing on their website that their kit man of more than 10 years had passed away.

Roger Harding has been battling illness of late and the League Two club published an article stating that their employee had sadly passed away, which was incorrect.

The mistake led to anger on fans’ forums and the Bristol Rovers appreciation group on Facebook.

On Sunday the Bristol club issued an apology on their website, stating it was a case of incorrect information and apologising for any hurt or pain caused by their initial mistake.

“The club would like to apologise for our earlier story that kit man Roger Harding has passed away. We were informed that Roger had passed away on Friday, but it turns out this information was not correct, and although Roger is very ill, he is still bravely fighting for his life,” the statement read.

“Roger is a very important part of Bristol Rovers and our thoughts are with his family and friends at he continues his battle.”

“We apologise again for any hurt our previous statement has caused.”

We wish Mr. Harding all the best in his recovery and hope that Rovers err on the side of caution in the relation to such sensitive stories.
