Ireland v England is always a tasty prospect, and when the cause is this good, it is even better.

If you are in Dublin tomorrow and fancy seeing some of the stars of yesteryear grace the pitch once again, then get out to Peamount United, as you are in for a treat, and you’ll not only be helping two great causes, you might be witnessing a world record too.

Tomorrow a number of high profile Irish celebrities will team up with some of the country’s top football stars – from both past and present – for a charity football match in aid of Special Olympics Ireland and BBC Children in Need. The Irish ‘dream team’ will face a selection of former footballers and celebrities – including the likes of Man United legend Lee Sharpe and Liverpool’s European hero Alan Kennedy – in a unique footballing event that looks to write itself into the Guinness Book of World Records.

The charity event, organised in collaboration with BBC’s Children In Need fundraiser, will coincide with a 48-hour Guinness World Record attempt to play five games in five countries across Ireland, England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The proceeds from the match will be donated to charity, with both Children In Need and Special Olympics Ireland benefitting from the event.

Speaking ahead of the event, Irish organiser Ken Lawlor said; “It is an honour to be given the opportunity to represent your country, especially against the old enemy. But what really makes it special is that it’s for a good cause. We obviously want to beat the English, but the most important thing, for me, is that the match is organised in aid of these two great charities.

“We’re all very excited. It’s not every day you get to break a world record, or play against the likes Lee Sharpe and Alan Kennedy. It’s bound to be an excellent event so please turn up and support us.

The charity match will take place at 5pm this Saturday, August 2nd at Peamount United Grounds, Co. Dublin and will feature players such as Jan Molby, Marco Gabbiadini, John Wark and Dele Adebola. Tickets for the match are available for €10 via Peamount Football Club, from [email protected] /[email protected] or just arrive and pay at the gate.

See you there.
