A Cork Circuit Court judge yesterday warned tougher economic times may lay ahead and suggested he may be making the jury their lunch next year.

The Examiner reports Judge Seán Ó Donnabháin dismissed a jury that were to hear the case against two men accused of assault and related charges. However, before the trial started, it was indicated that one man was pleading guilty to assault and that the prosecution was satisfied that a trial was no longer necessary.
While that ended the involvement of the jury, the foreman did ask if there were still entitled to lunch, which they were.
It drew the following quip from the judge, not losing sight of the fact that we may not be out of the worst of the recession yet.
“If you’re on a jury next year it could well be part of my job to make sandwiches for you.”
Could be a lot of hang sandwiches and tae all round next year for members of the Cork Circuit Court jury.
