In what can only be a turn up for the books, Cork people have an awful lot more gas than we originally thought.
The fuel exploration firm, Providence Resources, has discovered much more gas at the Barryrone oil field than was predicted.
The oil field which is about 50km of the coast of Cork could churn out up to 3,500 barrels of oil a day. The company only needed about half that amount for the site to be commercially viable.
Providence had known of the gas zone, but thought it was much smaller than they now know it to be. The company could now put in place a small amount of new infrastructure to get the gas to the existing pipeline.
"We are very pleased to confirm that the gas zone was far more productive than we had anticipated,"” Providence chief executive Tony O’Reilly Jnr told the Irish Independent.
"The well lies just 3 km from installed pipeline infrastructure which may provide a future route to monetise any surplus Barryroe gas production."
We always knew those Cork boys were full of gas.
