When we saw a story about a famous actor and an unsavoury incident on a Dublin-bound plane, we must admit we were hoping it had nothing to do with Jonathan Rhys-Meyers.
So imagine our relief when it turned out that the person who had embarrassed themselves this time was not Irish at all, but French veteran Gerard Depardieu.
Although one suspects that our relief was nothing in comparison to that experienced by Depardieu himself when he decided he didn’t need the privacy of a bathroom to take a leak aboard an Air France flight between Paris and Dublin this week.
A passenger who witnessed the incident, which we’d like to describe as a French Piss, said that a visibly drunk Depardieu, who was told that the bathroom would not be available until the flight had taken off, first said “I want to piss, I want to piss” and proceeded to unleash a stream of urine down the aisle.
The witness told French radio station Europe 1, “When a stewardess asked him to sit and wait 15 minutes until the jet took off and reached cruising altitude, he said he could not wait. And there and then he stood up and did it on the floor.
“We could see he had been drinking. The stewardess was dumbfounded. No-one said anything. It all happened with courtesy. Mr Depardieu sat back down and the plane returned to the parking area to be cleaned.”
A spokesperson for Air France told the Agence France-Presse news agency, “I will only confirm that he, in effect, urinated in the plane.”
There are no reports that French police have taken any further action against Depardieu, the star of films such as Green Card and Cyrano de Bergerac.
All we know is that he is now apparently here in Ireland. So watch out, folks!
