The River Lee burst its banks at 5am this morning with low lying areas of the city worst affected. The flood water has receded somewhat, while other parts of the county have been hit with high tides and heavy rainfall. The city centre has issued a flood warning for up to four days in certain parts.
With 25mm of rainfall and higher than normal tides, the Dublin City Council has taken some measures to prevent further damage. Low lying car parks have been closed, the flood gates of the River Dodder have been closed, as they havebeen at Spencer Dock
The Council have also issued a stock of sandbags that are to be used primarily for the Sandymount and Clontarf area.
AA Roadwatch has also reported flooding on the Gorey to Wexford road, while parts of Kilkenny city too have also borne the brunt of the rainfall, with surface water on all roads entering the city.
Met Éireann has said that very high tides, low pressure and predicted rainfall of 20mm to 25mm will give rise to further flooding in parts nationwide.
