If you were a gangster in Dublin and you were looking for like-minded partners in crime to join your gang for some help with armed robberies where is the first place you’d look? Why Craigslist, of course.
Rather than trawl the meaner city streets or ask around amongst the members of the Dublin equivalent of the Bloods and the Crips gangs, one optimistic Dublin gangster has put an ad up on online classifieds site Craigslist with a view to bulking up his gang to “meet up and conduct armed robberies of pharmacies and off-licenses”.
The ad (see below), spotted by Reddit user TheChinWa, starts off with the quite brilliant introductory line ‘Hello there, I’m an established gangster who enjoys the thug life’, and the gangster in question goes on to say how he enjoys “smoking marijuana cigarettes and having sex with promiscuous women while listening to gangster rap”.
How stereotypically gangsta’ of him.
He does lament the fact that ‘his former compatriots have moved away from the gangster life and are working in less volatile markets’ but with this ad bound to attract numerous responses from members of the Dublin gangster scene, it surely won’t be long until he’s back to his old tricks again.
Our gangster friend saves the best until last; however, politely requesting that fellow Craiglist members ‘please refrain from e-mailing me if you are a member of An Garda Siochána’. Some would say that the members of An Garda Siochána themselves are only gangs… we best stop it there.
So is just an elaborate and pretty funny piss-take (quite obviously yes) or is thug life alive and well in our capital city?
Be afraid Dubliners, be very afraid.
