At the announcement of Facebook Home, the latest project from the folks at Zuckerberg Industries, the massive social network also announced that they would be making their first phone.

The phone was made in conjunction with HTC and is called the HTC First, see what they’ve done there?

It comes with the totally useless Facebook Home pre-installed on it, and was originally due to start life priced at $350 in the States, although that dropped to $99, and has now gone down in price to just 99c in their latest promotion.

Facebook told the lads at Mashable that they liked the price reduction from the carrier AT&T in the States, calling it a “good move”, and it may well help them to corner the market for those who are looking for a serious budget phone, but it also suggests that there has been absolutely no interest in it.

All of this is not good news considering that the phone is out less than a month, and leads us to speculate that if you were hoping to see it over this side of the pond any time soon, we wouldn’t be too optimisitic.
