Fine Gael’s proposal to abolish the Seanad has been met with criticism from the opposition and there were some colourful comments aimed in the party’s direction today.

Richard Bruton will lead Fine Gael’s campaign to abolish the Seanad but has been compared to the German dictator for his actions thus far.

The Minister said that the upcoming referendum on the house’s future would give people a chance to save €20million a year and slash the number of national politicians by 30 per cent, but Fianna Fail Senator Mary White thinks it is nothing but a propaganda campaign from the Minister.

“I wonder did he read this press release before it went out?” she questioned.

“It’s like propaganda from Hitler people.

“How dare he criticise us and say we are ineffective”.

Senator David Norris too voiced his concerns in the same debate, with Deputy Director of Elections for the Referendum campaign Regina Doherty his target, with Norris accusing the politician of “talking though her fanny”, proving he is still quite the wordsmith.

“The idea that somebody who’s over 20 years in this house should have to listen to someone who’s not a wet week in this house talking through her fanny, I seriously object to that.”

Just another day in the world of Irish politics.
