The first poster for The Dark Knight Rises has been released by Warner Bros and reveals a crumbling Gotham City.
The teaser image, featured below, doesn't reveal too much concerning the as-yet unknown plot for the 2012 summer blockbuster, nor does it reveal any of the movie’s characters, yet we feel it still does an effective job.
The main Batman iconography can clearly be seen by the shape of the upwards view surrounding the crumbling buildings, which is intended to be a representation of the Batman symbol.
Quite why Gotham, or what we assume to Gotham, is destroyed is unclear – is this the kind of threat the caped crusader faces against Tom Hardy’s (Inception) Bane?

The Dark Knight Rises will reunite Hardy with fellow Inception stars Michael Caine, Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, while Christian Bale returns as Bruce Wayne/Batman, while Anne Hathaway plays Selina Kyle/Catwoman.
The sequel to the billion dollar-grossing The Dark Knight hits cinemas on July 20, 2012.
