Rarely does a major golf tournament go by without at least one sighting of a GAA jersey, but there were Kerry jerseys all over Augusta this weekend.
Already the highlight of the golf calendar, another aspect of the Masters that has made it so appealing for Irish viewers in recent years has been the numerous sightings of GAA jerseys on the hallowed Augusta turf, garments that surely wouldn’t have been tolerated on the Georgia course in less relaxed days gone by.
If the weekend was anything to go by, Kerry were best represented at this year’s tournament, from the Eoin ‘Bomber’ Liston lookalike spotted in green and gold on Saturday, to the guy sporting the not so popular white Kerry away jersey from a few years back who appeared in the background on numerous occasions during yesterday’s coverage of the event.
There he is with Jason Day…
And with Brandt Snedeker…
And, last but not least, with Tiger himself…
Fair play to the anonymous Kerry man in question for flying the Irish flag; he’s certainly raised the bar for golf fans from this part of the world eager for their mug, and more importantly, their county jersey, to be seen by millions watching worldwide.
The only surprise is that he didn’t gatecrash Adam Scott’s celebrations afterwards, but he already had Steve Williams to do that for him…
