Le GAA is growing in popularity around the world it seems…

While there isn’t an inch of Ireland that hasn’t fallen in love with the sexy mistress that is the GAA, we always wondered what the international reaction to our fantastic sport is like.

We imagine that hurling and football have definitely have gotten some new fans this season, mainly due to the fact that more games are being broadcast to foreign countries, but it seems that the grassroots of the GAA are also thriving in new countries.

We’re delighted to see that the Corbarieu Stadium in Toulouse will host the first-ever international game between national teams when France take on Italy on November 15. The exhibition match will also incorporate mens and ladies football as well as GAA handball.

The match is part of the French Federation’s 10th anniversary and it’s also staged in conjunction with the 5th anniversary of local club, Tolosa Gaels.

You have to love the French accent, it even makes GAA clubs sound sexy.

GAA seems to be developing at a decent pace in France, the numbers of clubs have increased at an impressive rate in the last ten years (three in 2004, 20 in 2014) and the FFG currently counts more than 600 licensed players.

We’re still fairly confident that the All-Stars could beat their best team though.
