From the most goals to the team with the lowest points to qualify, here are some handy facts and figures to keep in mind

The Champions League group phase has come to a close, so here are the facts and figures that stand out from the players and teams that made the biggest impact (or lack of impact) on the competition to date.

Highest points total

There was a tie at the top here between the two teams from the Spanish capital, who both had a near perfect Champions League group stage. Atlético Madrid and their neighbours Real both finished on 16 points, and will be formidable opposition for whoever gets them in the draw for the next round.

Lowest points total

No surprise here, Olympique de Marseille did not have a very good time of it, but their group was particularly difficult, as Napoli learned to their peril. They finished with a grand total of 0 points.

Most points without qualifying

As we just mentioned, Napoli needed just one more goal last night to get through to the next round, but they left it far too late in the game to try and get them. Their players were understandably devastated after the final whistle, as normally 12 points would be enough to get you through.

Least points needed to qualify

FC Zenit have been awarded the very dubious honour of being the team to make it through to the next round with just 6 points, and might be looking at the next phase with a bit of trepidation.

Most goals scored (team)

It might not come as a huge surprise that one of the teams that finished with the most points in the group stage also ended up with the most goals: Real Madrid. They scored 20 goals on their way to the top of the group, and weren’t too bad at the back, conceding just five.

Least goals scored (team)

Spanish teams feature heavily in this list so far, but we’re sure that Real Sociedad would rather not have this particular accolade to their name. They only managed to nab one goal in all their group phase matches, so no surprise that they won’t be headed to the next round.

Most goals scored (player)

Unsurprisingly, Cristiano Ronaldo, who has been a goal machine this year, broke a Champions League record with his nine goals in the group stages. He and his Madrid side will be one team that most will be looking to avoid when the draw is made on Monday.

Most assists

Wayne Rooney’s form has definitely picked up in the Premier League this year, and also in the Champions League, as he got himself six assists as his Manchester United team marched through to the next round at the top of their group.
