The Football Association of Ireland and Giovanni Trapattoni have parted ways this morning

After a disappointing qualification campaign saw us lose twice in one week at home to Sweden and away to Austria, Giovanni Trapattoni and the Football Association of Ireland have agreed to part ways by “mutual consent”.

Marco Tardelli will also leave along with Trapattoni, and although he may have had ambitions of taking over himself after Trap’s contract ended with this qualification campaign, he will now also have to look for a new employer.

This news will be welcomed by the many fans who had become disgruntled with the side’s performances, and it was was the expected decision after recent results had taken a turn for the worse. There will now be the inevitable speculation and search for Trap’s replacement, and Martin O’Neill seems to be the man that the bookies are backing, with his odds shortening to 4/6 earlier today.
