Gone to the Birds: Harry Redknapp admits to spending thousands a year on bird feed

Turns out he's more Park Ranger than Queens Park Ranger

Turns out he’s more Park Ranger than Queens Park Ranger

Managerial sackings are all the rage at this time of year, with Steve Clarke, Andre Villas Boas and Gianfranco Zola all gone within the space of a few days, so it’s nice to see that there is a story about one of our favourite managers that doesn’t revolve around him getting sacked.

It seems that Harry Redknapp told The Daily Mail that he has a very weird habit/compulsion which has remained hidden for many years: he loves feeding birds.

He told the paper “We have about 30 [bird feeders at home] and I can easily spend 80 quid on bird food a fortnight in the pet shop. I won’t leave for work until I’ve fed them – I hate to think of them going hungry. Bit mad, innit?”

This is not the first time we’ve heard of Harry Redknapp not managing his budget very wisely, and this will come as no surprise to Portsmouth fans. The lads over at Who Ate All The Pies have crunched the numbers and this adds up to just over £2000 a year.

He added that he’s regularly up at 5am to make sure the birds who visit the Redknapp garden have plenty to eat while he’s off training the squad, but no mention of who looks after them when he heads off on the long away trips. We just hope that with all the birds who must flock to his house that he doesn’t fall a-fowl of his neighbours.
