Gunners fans breathed a sigh of relief this morning as news arose of a contract situation that didn't involve Robin van Persie or Theo Walcott, with Laurent Koscileny signing a new long-term deal.
The Frenchman had a difficult time in his first twelve months at Arsene Wenger's side following his summer 2010 transfer from Lorient, however, the 26-year-old quickly grew in stature within the club and was one of the star performers in last season's third place Premier League finish.
"The development Laurent has shown has been absolutely exceptional," said Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger on the club's official website today.
"Laurent has been outstanding for us over the last two seasons. I am very pleased he has decided to commit his future to the club.
"When you consider that until 2009 he was playing in Ligue 2 in France and that he is now performing at the very top level in the Premier League and for his country, the development that he has shown has been absolutely exceptional."
The length of the contract extension has not been announced, though the deal is sure to keep Koscielny busy, as he has made 85 appearances in just two seasons at the side.
"I'm delighted to have reached agreement with the club," said the player. "I have had a fantastic time here and look forward to an exciting future with Arsenal."
