Google have announced a new program that will help to look after your data once you’ve (mega)bitten the dust

Google’s latest venture is designed to make sure your sensitive data doesn’t fall into the wrong hands, even after you’re dead.

According to a blog post on Thursday announcing the launch of the program, which has been given the catchy title ‘Inactive Account Manager’, Andreas Tuerk, Product Manager for Google said “Not many of us like thinking about death – especially our own…but making plans for what happens after you’re gone is really important for the people you leave behind”.

With this feature, you can choose what happens to your account if it’s been inactive for a period of time of your choosing, which can be anything from three months to a year.

Tuerk added that Google were hoping that the new feature will help you “plan you digital afterlife”, which all seems a bit too creepy to us.

Still, it might be handy to be able to have some of your more…ahem…”sensitive” data deleted after you kick the bucket. Or should that be “kick the recycle bin”?
