Constantly trying to impress the wife with fancy new gifts may do more damage than it’s actually worth.

According to a new study, keeping up to date with the latest and greatest material goods could see your relationship take a swift U-turn. The study showed how couples who claim that money and possessions are important to them, are less satisfied with their relationships compared to couples where at least one of them wasn’t materialistic. The study looked at 1,800 couples and was published in the Journal of Couple and Relationship Therapy, which sounds like a truly gripping read.

Rich couples are also more likely to have shite sex in the sack, compared to couples who are feeling the pinch. So what’s wrong with the rich people and their inability to… love? Well, according to Jason Carroll, professor at the School of Family Life at Brigham Young University, couples who have cash to burn look for happiness solely in possessions and not people.

When these couples with cash start looking for happiness at the bottom of a BT bag, they often end up putting themselves under greater finical stress and pressure compared to someone who had nothing to begin with.

So what do the researchers say is the best way to nurture a relationship with your missus? Live within your means. Stow away three months of emergency cash, or more if you can, and let life take its course. At least you then know you have financial stability, which always leads to ‘stability’ in the bedroom.
