The 53-time capped international had his contract terminated by Bournemouth by mutual consent and has decided to take the reins at Icelandic club IVB, with former Portsmouth team-mate Hermann Hreidarsson linking up with him.
He announced the move on Twitter yesterday, and one of his first games in charge will be at Fratton Park, with a fund-raising game between the two clubs taking place on April 16th.
IBV finished third in the Iceland domestic league last season and call the small Vestmannaeyjar islands – which have a population of just over 4,000 – off the south coast of the Nordic country home.
James’ new surroundings
James has been training with his new team since February and will consider it one of the n-icest challenges he has had to face.
Whatever about the weather in the winter months, we expect that a man with his standing in the game won’t get a chilly reception from the locals.
