Revenue figures released that the number of millionaires in Ireland grew to 751 in 2012 with the Government benefitting from the high tax payers.
Information from the Revenue showed that an extra 29 people last year joined the millionaire ranks, from One Direction’s Niall Horan to a number of Lotto winners. The figures also indicated that one-in-eight of our rich folk are not residents for tax assessments.
Of the 751 millionaires, 621 do not break the €2 million mark, leaving the remaining 130 of the mega-rich to cough up a staggering €545million in total.
The top earners make a significant contribution to the Government coffers, with €151 coming their way from the wealthy of the country.
The less well-off millionaires (it sounds ridiculous even writing this) waded in with an even bigger tax sum — €222.1million from earnings of €815million last year.
Nice for some.
