After two weeks of virtually no rain anywhere a drought is declared and record temperatures could be reached this weekend too.
You only have to look at your poor, dying lawn to know that it hasn’t rained in quite a while. In fact, with less than 0.2 of one millimeter or no rain in almost the entire country for 15 days, we are now officially living in an ‘absolute drought’ according to Met Eireann.
And it seems there is no end in sight for the scorching weather. Temperatures today ill be even hotter than yesterday and Met Eireann have issued a ‘Yellow Alert’, which is when the mercury hits between 27 and 30 degrees for today and tomorrow and if the heat goes over 30 then an ‘Orange Alert’ may have to be issued.
Looking beyond tomorrow, there is a small risk of a thunder shower in places, but Met Eireann’s Harm Louijkx reckons it’s going to continue, as he tells the Irish Times.
“The rest of this week will be as sunny as it is now, and through the weekend but having said that there is a small risk of a few showers toward the end of the weekend,” he said.
“It’s not going to take away from the general picture. It looks like it’s going to stay quite warm.”
Right, better get more stuff for the BBQ on the way home so…
