Last night an Irish footballer was the unlikely winner of Swedish Pop Idol.

Kevin Walker plays for GIF Sundsvall and is an underage Swedish international, though he could have declared for Ireland. His father Pat hails from Carlow and is a former Under 21 international and played for Bohemians in the 1980s, winning an FAI Cup in 1983, before moving to Sweden. He has carved out a successful management career there and has seen his sons Kevin and Robert both play in the country’s top flight.

We came across Kevin’s musical talents recently and last night he sang U2’s ‘Where The Streets Have No Name’, Jon Mayer’s ‘Say What You Need To Say’, and also dueted with Robbie Williams before winning the public vote.

While he will be on a musical high and is set to promote his upcoming album, GIF Sundsvall return for pre-season training on 6 January, so enjoy it while it lasts Kevin!
