The Guardian today reports that while Fergie may be bowing out at the end of the current campaign before moving upstairs, he has told some within the club that he is keen to replicate the model that is proving so successful at Bayern Munich.
The German club pride themselves on involving former players at various levels and the Scot has said he would like a similar approach at Old Trafford, with Paul Scholes also suggested to be offered a role within the club if he as expected hangs up his boots for a second time this summer.
There would be obvious obstacles to Neville linking up at Old Trafford, not least his involvement with Sky Sports which has won him the respect of a great deal of the footballing public for his honesty and forthright opinions. His involvement with the national set-up would also need to be addressed as he is a key part of Roy Hodgson’s coaching staff.
The paper reports that Fergie wants to keep a role open for Neville and that a position within his home club could be too big for the former full-back to turn down.
