Joe Kinnear reckons he’s the best Director of Football in England

JOE

Hey, who are we to argue, he just might be…

Everyone’s favourite football executive has been back in the papers today, and let’s just say he is still not lacking in confidence.

Joe Kinnear has given an interview to a local newspaper in the Newcastle area, the Shields Gazette, and while he never hits the heights he did in his now infamous talkSPORT interview, he does drop a few more gems.

Such as: “Every top club in the land has got one [a director of football]. We haven’t – that’s the difference.

“The manager can’t do everything. I’m probably the only football manager to be a director of football. I don’t know any other ex-managers who have.

“I’ve been a manager for 35 years. I’ve been manager of the year. I’ve won every award there is in football as a player. I think all those qualities put me head and shoulders above every other director of football.”

Kenny Dalglish was a Director of Football at Celtic once upon a time but in Kinnear’s defence, it is rare in this part of the world. Whether he turns out ot be ‘head and shoulders’ above the rest remains to be seen however.

Kinnear went on to say that he would still be in charge of Newcastle if it wasn’t for the heart attack that forced him out in 2009. Considering Alan Pardew is the third man in the Magpie hotseat since Kinnear left, that would hardly be a certainty…
