We were only thinking that it had been a good while since Joey had had a good Twitter rant…
One of football’s most lovable characters was back to his old self on the social networking site today, starting off with another dig at Fergie (he slagged him off for his inability as a coach fairly recently) for comments in his book saying that Steven Gerrard wasn’t a top, top player and turning it into a lengthy statement on why he thought Gerrard was a better player than Roy Keane.
Barton is entitled to his opinion, of course, and we’re certainly not going to take any side on this one, but naturally his comments provoked some angry reaction from Keane supporters, particularly, on this side of the water at least, because of Joey’s assertion that ‘Keane wasn’t the same player with the Republic (of Ireland)’.
If you haven’t caught wind of it on Twitter, you can see Barton’s latest comment thread in its entirety above and feel free to weigh in with your own opinions in the comment box at the bottom of the page.
Fergie obviously as good at judging players as he is at putting cones out. Steven Gerrard not a top, top player?

On a serious note. Gerrard for me, was better than Roy Keane. At one stage he was up there with the best midfielders in the World. — Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) October 24, 2013

Did he really need the extra few bob a book will have raised? — Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) October 24, 2013
Lucky enough to have Played against them both on number of occasions. Steven Gerrard streets ahead IMO. Keane was v good but SG better… — Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) October 24, 2013
People forgetting Keane played with the best in the World at United. He wasn’t same player with the Republic. Was he? — Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) October 24, 2013
People confused here. I’m not saying Roy Keane wasn’t World class at all. In fact… — Joseph Barton (@Joey7Barton) October 24, 2013
He was a World class leader. Winner. Competitor. No doubt about it. No doubt a World class player. Just that Gerrard was better. #keane #imo

Again people its a game of opinions and this is mine. Mine based on having watched both lots of times and on having competed against both.

Feel free to weigh in with your own opinions on Joey’s views and on Gerrard v Keane in the comment box at the bottom of the page but maybe refrain from letting Joey know what you think on Twitter for a while; he’s obviously got better things to do today…
Off to see a man about a dog…
