John Terry has signed a one-year extension to his contract at Chelsea.
The 33-year-old was out of contract following Sunday’s final Premier League clash against Cardiff City, but has now signed a deal to make him the highest paid defender in the Premier League.
Terry was hoping for a longer contract amid talk that he could even move abroad – Galatasaray were known to hold an interest – but the Daily Mirror reports that the former England captain has decided to stay at Stamford Bridge.
Jose Mourinho was desperate to hold on to Terry, who has formed an excellent defensive partnership with Gary Cahill, following a trophyless campaign that saw the Blues dumped out of the Champions League by Atletico Madrid and finish third in the Premier League, behind Liverpool and champions Manchester City.
