A Dublin man has been forced by a judge to pay €8,000 to a prostitute who he trapped in his car before going on a high-speed garda chase.

Conor O’Meara (24), who went on  alternative Halloween night celebration in 2010, managed to escape jail.

O’Meara, with an address in Beverly Drive, Rathfarnham was in a drunken state on the night and thought it’d be a blindingly brilliant idea to pick up a hooker.

But, whent the woman tried to leave the car, he thought she’d robbed his wallet and pulled her back in by her scarf. He continued to drive with his hands around her throat. The woman eventually managed to escape when he stopped t at a red light.

Once O’Meara had checked that box, he decided to drive recklessly through the city with the guards on his tail. He ran through red lights and at times drove on the wrong side of the road, doubtlessly endangering numerous lives.

After he crashed his black Ford Focus into a patrol car he headed for the M50 where he cruised along at a over 160km/h. The gardaí got sick of O’Meara’s cat and mouse act after a while and threw out a stinger to burst his tyres.

While he had no previous convictions, the charges were pretty serious. But, Judge Martin Nolan sentenced O’Meara to 5 years, suspending it in full. He must now pay the prostitute €8,000 as a token of his remorse.

O’Meara was also banned from the roads for 3 years.
