Kilkenny boss Brian Cody to take break after heart op

We wish Brian Cody all the best as he takes some time away from hurling to recover from a pre-planned cardiac operation.

JOE

We wish Brian Cody all the best as he takes some time away from hurling to recover from a pre-planned cardiac operation.

The greatest active manager in the world of GAA will be missing from the sidelines for a few weeks. According to a statement released by the Kilkenny County Board last night, Brian Cody will leave team affairs to Martin Fogarty and Michael Dempsey for a period, speculated to be six weeks in some press this morning, as he recovers from a heart operation.

The full statement released late last night reads:

Kilkenny Senior Hurling Manager Brian Cody underwent pre-planned cardiac surgery today and is currently recovering in hospital. He is in good form but has to take a break from team affairs for a number of weeks.
In his absence Martin Fogarty and Michael Dempsey will be taking charge of the Senior Hurling Panel. The Co. Board asks that Brian and his family be afforded privacy for the duration of his recovery and will not be issuing any further statements.
Sincerely
Mr. Ned Quinn
Co. Chairman

The news means that Cody will miss the remainder of the Cats League campaign for sure. The All-Ireland champs return to Championship action on June 9 so all concerned will hope he will be back in his bainisteoir bib by then.

Get well soon Brian.
