Kilkenny George Clooney lookalike looks nothing like George Clooney

Traditionally, someone classed as a ‘lookalike’ must bear some sort of physical resemblance to the person in question. Obviously that criteria didn’t apply in Kilkenny recently.

27-year old David Glendon beat off reportedly stiff competition in the Marble City recently, where nearly 800 people entered a competition to see who most resembled Hollywood hunk George Clooney, whose ancestors hail from the region.

Entrants were asked to submit photographs where they posed and dressed like the suave and sophisticated Clooney and a panel of experts reduced the 783 entrants to a shortlist of five before announcing Glendon as the winner.

The problem is, as you can see from the photograph above, is that Glendon doesn’t look like Clooney at all, not one bit. There is absolutely no resemblance whatsoever, yet as a reward for ‘winning’ the competition, David gets to head off to the Oscars in March with Kilkenny-based film-maker and historian Gabriel Murray, who organised the competition.

Commenting on his success, the “currently single” Glendon (not for long, eh David?) told the Kilkenny People: “I decided to do it for a bit of craic, for the fun of it.

“I am delighted to have won. To go to the Oscars, well that would be anyone’s dream come true,” he said.

Heads are bound to turn at the glitzy ceremony in Los Angeles next month when Hollywood’s finest catch sight of Glendon’s Clooney-like movie-star looks.

Our sympathies go out to the poor members of the press manning the red carpet when George and David enter the Kodak Arena before the event.

After all, how will they ever tell them apart?
