The owners of Liverpool Football Club, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), have strongly denied rumours that the club is up for sale after the suggestion was made in The Sun newspaper.

A report in the red-top newspaper had claimed that the club was unofficially up for sale for a sum in the region of £350million and that a Saudi Arabian oil firm called Saudi Aramco and two unnamed American billionaires were amongst parties interested in purchasing the club.

Liverpool Football Club and FSG have been quick to deny the rumours, however, with FSG insisting that they have had no contact with any potential buyers and have no intention of making a sale.

“Fenway Sports Group has made its position clear, Liverpool Football Club is not for sale. There is no truth in this story,” a club spokesman is quoted as saying on the Sky Sports website.

A spokesperson for Fenway Sports Group, meanwhile, added: “Like so many rumours in the past about a sale of Liverpool Football Club, there is absolutely no truth in this.

“We have had no meetings with anyone about a sale, we don’t know who the source of the rumour is.”
