Our Love Your County series continues today with a focus on the Kingdom, the most successful footballing county in the GAA

Sporting moment: 1978

It was a tough choice to narrow down the sporting moment to just one of Kerry’s 36 All-Ireland titles, but the winner was deemed to be the 1978 victory.

The first of their four in a row titles, Kerry came back to thrash Dublin by 5-11 to 0-9 in the final of the All-Ireland, and marked the beginning of an unprecedented reign of domination in the sport.

There was also this classic moment, one of the most famous moments in GAA history, as Mikey Sheehy lobbed the ball beautifully over Paddy Cullen to get one of the most famous goals, and it was voted number 12 in the top 20 GAA moments.

Kerry fans will love this video, although Dublin fans may want to look away now.

Fungie the Dolphin

Everyone’s favourite dolphin in the world (we’re fairly sure that’s been proven scientifically) is of course Fungie, and he calls Dingle his home. In fact, he is the longest standing friendly solitary dolphin in the world, and he’s been hanging around on the lovely Kerry coast since around 1984, regularly befriending swimmers and following vessels in and out on their journeys.

Other Voices

The brilliant musical series Other Voices also takes place in Dingle, with some of the biggest names in Irish and international music, including the brilliant And So I Watch You From Afar, amongst a whole host of others.
