Our Love Your County series continues today with a focus on the Tipperary, All-Ireland hurling champions on no fewer than 26 occasions.

Sporting moment: All-Ireland champions 1989

The Premier County have lifted Liam McCarthy on 26 occasions, but few were sweeter than their 23rd success in 1989. Without a victory since 1971, to say it was overdue was a bit of an understatement as far as all those from Tipp were concerned.

In the final itself they simply blew away the challenge of Antrim, with Nicky English the scorer in chief. He finished with a tally of 2-12 on the day, while Declan Ryan (1-02) and Pat Fox (1-02) also chipped in on the scoreboard as they had 18 points to spare by the end of the contest.

Visit the Rock of Cashel

The Rock of Cashel is one of Ireland’s most spectacular archaeological sites and a huge tourist attraction in the county. For more than 1000 years the Rock of Cashel was a symbol of power and the seat of kings and churchmen who ruled over the region and is a must-see in the county.

Coolmore Stud

Ireland has a rich tradition in horseracing and Coolmore Stud in South Tipperary is the world’s largest breeding operation of thoroughbred racehorses. Owned by John Magnier and Robert Sangster, anyone with even a passing interest in sport will want to check in at the famous venue.
