The FA have banned Luis Suarez for 10 games over his now infamous ‘bite-gate’ incident against Chelsea.
With people demanding punishments from three games up to expulsion to Mars we’re pretty sure there was no sanction the FA could issue to Liverpool striker Luis Suarez that would please everybody.
In the end the powers that be have slapped an 10-game ban on the Uruguayan, ending his season and putting the beginning of next year out of bounds too.
As has been expertly pointed out, Suarez really put the ‘eat’ into repeat offender and the ban is three more than the seven-game ban he received for biting an opponent in the Netherlands in 2010.
It is also two more than the eight games he was banned after the racism row with Manchester United’s Patrice Evra.
The club have yet to release their statement but as soon as they do we will bring it to you.
UPDATE: Liverpool have now issued a statement.
Liverpool Football Club has today commented on the decision to ban Luis Suarez for 10 games following the incident with Branislav Ivanovic during the game against Chelsea on April 21, 2013.
Suarez took swift action on Sunday to make an unreserved apology for his behaviour and accepted the charge of violet conduct from the FA.
LFC managing director Ian Ayre said: “Both the club and player are shocked and disappointed at the severity of today’s Independent Regulatory Commission decision.
“We await the written reasons tomorrow before making any further comment.”
