Man chooses jail over house arrest after he runs out of Xbox 360 games

Given the option of a stint in jail or house arrest, we’d jump at the chance of enjoying home comforts. For one man in New Zealand, it now provides no comfort at all.

Given the option of a stint in jail or house arrest, we’d jump at the chance of enjoying home comforts. For one man in New Zealand, it now provides no comfort at all.

New Zealand law stipulates that a person convicted of a crime and sentenced to two years or less has the option in certain cases to choose house arrest.

The New Zealand Advocate reports that a 19 year-old from Whangarei was 10 months to his 11 month house arrest stint when he contacted his local police station and said he wanted to finish the sentence in jail. In fact he told police that he was going to breach his house arrest if he wasn’t taken to jail immediately.

Why on earth would someone take this course of action we hear you say? Turns out our small time criminal had run out of Xbox 360 games to play and was bored out of his mind at home.

First world problems can be very difficult indeed for some.
