How would you feel if someone threw a cup of water over you? We imagine that you’d not only be soggy, you’d also be a tad bit miffed about the incident.
Spare a thought then, won’t you, for a poor garda who got soaked after a kerfuffle outside a takeaway.
The Argus reports that Darren Shevlin from Crossbeigh, Knockbridge has been given the chance to do community service instead of a prison sentence after he admitted to some public order offences that happened in February.
What happened exactly? Well Judge William Hamill, who was overseeing the case in court, was told how gardaí were dealing with a separate problem outside a takeaway when Shevlin got involved.
Shevlin apparently threw a cup of water over a female officer and a member of the public who was standing nearby. Scandalous, right?
Naturally the gardaí were angered by Shevlin’s actions, but as they moved forward to speak to him, Shevlin started getting aggressive and abusive. He was promptly arrested and brought to a nearby station.
At the garda station, Shevlin randomly decided to swallow the sim card from his phone for no apparent reason. Clever move.
The court was told that Mr Shevlin had a previous conviction for assault, but that he had apologised to the gardaí over what happened in February and the gardaí had accepted the apology.
Shevlin was awarded 75 hours of community service for his antics. We imagine that his wild water-flinging ways are a thing of the past now.
