United have had to fork out the cash for a player who expressed a desire to leave the Bernabeu after realising that his place in the first team was threatened by the signing of World Cup stars James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos and while he won’t solve all of the Red Devils’ all too evident ills immediately, his arrival will be widely welcomed by fans who have been crying out for big signings all summer.
If and when Di Maria completes the move, he will replace Fernando Torres as the Premier League’s most expensive signing and, with all due respect to the Spaniard, United supporters will hope that this move turns out a little better than that one did.
