Michael Lowry has refused to surrender his seat in the Dáil, claiming he has been done a great injustice by the Moriarty Tribunal.
The 58-year-old former Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications was given half-an-hour of speaking time in the Dáil this morning.
He used it as he used the time he was given in the previous two days, to slam the Moriarty Tribunal and other politicians, and reiterated his decision not to resign.
He described Michéal Martin and Fianna Fáil as hypocrites, and refused to be lectured by Sinn Fein, who he stated had been associated with "atrocities, mutilation, murder on civilians and unarmed gardaí".
"I am not a criminal," the Independent TD for North Tipperary continued, and described “the level of scrutiny, inquiry and intrusion” he has been subjected to as “unprecedented in the history of the State”.
His collegues in the Dáil had passed a motion formally requesting Lowry resign.
