Michael Owen has lots and lots to say about cheese

It just gets cheddar and cheddar. Sorry.

JOE

It just gets cheddar and cheddar. Sorry.

The Guardian’s weekly ‘Small Talk‘ interview is always a good quick read and always manages to unearth some nugget about the person being interviewed.

Ahead of the new season, Michael Owen was in the hot seat and while he informs us the he doesn’t really like films (‘I can’t get into them’) and what music he listens to in the car (‘Nothing’) it his deeply held beliefs about cheese that tickled us most.

Cheese or chocolate? That’s a tough one. Probably cheese.

Well you did want cheese in your sandwich. Yes, though funnily enough brie is not a cheese that I would eat on its own – it just goes well with turkey and cranberry. If I’m eating cheese on its own with a cracker it has to be really strong. I can handle a strong cheese. Stilton, things like that. If you’re buying mature cheese, than Canadian is probably the strongest one. Canadian extra mature, or Stilton, or anything that really stinks. That’s only really happened in the last five years. Before that I preferred a milder cheese.
