One of the few cartoon characters that actually taught us something over the years has been South Park’s Mr. Mackey. So we’re taking a moment to commemorate everyone’s favourite fictional school counsellor. M’kay?

Nothing is normal in the world of South Park, seriously, there are too many examples to choose from, but the character Mr Mackey has always stayed level headed – even though he has a misshapen head.

He is one of the few adult characters in South Park who is sensible and who seems to actually ‘give a rat’s ass’ about the kids aka. Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman. However, his most memorable episode had to be in the one titled ‘Mystery of the Urinal Deuce’.

There are some seriously good quotes from the episode and if you haven’t seen it then here’s just one of his best moments from the ‘Mystery of the Urinal Deuce’ episode:

Mr. Mackey: “Why, Clyde? Why did you do it?”
Clyde: “I don’t know.”
Mr. Mackey: “You got a whole school here, Clyde! M’kay? You got over three hundred people that need to use the boys’ room. Then, you decide you’re gonna be a comedian, m’kay, and pinch one off in the urinal, and leave it layin’ there for everyone to have to look at! Okay, okay, you think it’s funny, but nobody else does! They gotta walk in that bathroom and see your rancid dook propped up against the back of the urinal like a brown rag doll!
Principal Victoria: “Mr. Mackey, Clyde’s parents are here.”
Mr. Mackey: “M’kay, that’s good! Let’s see what your mom and dad have to say about your little poopscapade! Come on in, please. I’m just trying to get your son to explain why… he would drop a dook in the urinal!”

If there’s one thing that we’ll always remember from Mr. Mackey it’s that “Drugs are bad, m’kay?” M’kay is easily his most recognisable catch phrase and it wouldn’t be uncommon to hear someone uttering it on a night out or in passing and it’s all thanks to Mr. Mackey.

M’kay?

So where did one of our favourite adult characters from South Park actually come from? According to Trey Parker, who voices Mackey, the character was based on his school counsellor, who, when he saw Parker in the halls during class, would simply say, “Okay, Trey, get back to class now, mmm-kay?”

Mr. Mackey isn’t the first fictional character to feature on our Mighty Mac list (see here), but he’s certainly one of our favourites.
