Trying to get through US Customs is never a pleasant experience, but it should be easy enough if you're a famous Olympian, right?
By Adrian Collins
You'd think that given just how popular Mo Farah became after the Olympics in 2012 that the whole world would recognise him, but leave it up to the guys at US Customs to have missed out on the whole thing.
Farah has been regularly travelling to and from the States in order to train with Alberto Salazar, a legend in the sport, at the headquarters of Nike in Oregon, but he was stopped at the airport there recently by Customs officials on suspicion of being a terrorist.
Mo told The Sun “I couldn't believe it. Because of my Somali origin I get detained every time I come through US Customs”.
Apparently, he even whipped out the two golds he won to prove to them he was who he said he was, but they weren't buying it.
We're not Customs officials, but we can't help thinking that it would take about two seconds to Google “Mo Farah” and see what comes up.
That probably would have cleared up the situation pretty quickly, not to mention they might also have spotted that he was awarded a CBE this week!
Might be time to stick a quick note on his file there lads, that should make sure there's no Mo confusion.
