Muhammad Ali celebrates 50th anniversary of Liston victory with a brilliant first official tweet

He’s only just joined Twitter and already Muhammad Ali is better at it than everyone else.

Yesterday, the boxing and wider sporting world paid tribute to Muhammad Ali on the fiftieth anniversary of the day he claimed the World Heavyweight title for the first time and shook the world with a shock defeat of reigning champion Sonny Liston in Miami Beach.

Never shy of celebrating his own achievements, Ali himself wanted to join in the fun, it seems, and did so by posting what was his first official tweet along with a picture from that iconic night half a century ago.

Although the message was posted on an account that has been in existence for some time, it was the first to come with the hashtag #AliTweet, which, as is indicated on the bio of the blue-tick verified account, illustrates that it is being posted by the champ himself.

It’s a pity that Twitter didn’t exist when Ali was in his pomp because it was made for somebody as confident, as eloquent and as quick to deliver a classic quote as Ali was, but now that he’s on it for real, hopefully we’ll see more of this sort of thing from The Greatest of them all in the future.
