No escape from LA for Robbie as Keane pens ‘multi-year’ contract extension with the Galaxy

It’s been a good week for the Irish skipper.

Fresh from winning the FAI’s Senior International Player of the Year award at the weekend (worth revisiting for one more look at Bruce Arena), Keane has put to pen to paper on a ‘multi-year’ contract extension with the LA Galaxy, which would appear to pretty much ensure that he will finish his playing career with the MLS side.

Eyebrows were raised when Keane made the move Stateside in the summer of 2011, but he has been a huge success in the MLS, scoring 34 goals in 55 games, winning the MLS Cup in 2011 and 2012, making the MLS Best XI for the past two consecutive seasons and finishing in the top three of the 2013 MLS MVP vote.

Keane turns 34 in July, so this could well be the last club contract he signs in what has been a well-travelled career to date and if reports that the contract is worth €3.3m are to be believed, then he’ll be left with a nice little nest egg when he does hang up his boots.
