The Royals are looking to hire first-team performance analyst for an internship, with he/she reporting to the senior performance analyst.

While this appears to be an interesting role and could be just the break someone with a degree or background in Sports Science is looking for, the conditions seem a little harsh.

The role is for 12 months unpaid and there will be no travel expenses for the successful candidate, which considering that the person must hold a full driving licence, will involve time on the road.

Unsocialable hours are mentioned and the candidate must attend all home games (which looks likely to be even more in 2013/14 given the almost inevitable drop to the Championship) and also some away fixtures.

While we are all in favour of internships as a means of getting the foot in the door, these conditions seem a little extreme to us and has receieved a lot of criticism online, with one commenter saying he reported the club to the Government over what he felt was ‘slave labour’ and ‘surely illegal practice’. The full job description can be found here.

We’d imagine fellow relegation candidates QPR would have no problem offering a wage, and a very good one at that for a similar role.
