Rory McIlroy is a US Open winner, and in winning his first major title he broke some records and saw his wealth increase significantly.

Unless you went to bed very early last night and got up very late this morning, you'll know by now that County Down's Rory McIlroy has been enjoying a bit of good form over the last few days.

We've done a quick bit of number crunching to bring you some of the key figures relating to McIlroy's famous victory.

16 The number of shots under par that Rory McIlroy finished on to win the 2011 US Open - the most strokes under par for 72 holes.

268 The amount of strokes McIlroy needed to complete all 72 holes - the lowest score in US Open history. He also holds the low score record for a player to complete 54 holes (199 strokes) and 36 holes (131).

4th McIlroy's current Official World Ranking. At the end of 2010 he was 10th, and only last week he was ranked 8th in the world. Destined to go up a few more notches, we think.

22 McIlroy's age, in years. It makes him almost five months younger than golfing legend Jack Nicklaus was when he won his first major in 1962. He's not the youngest US Open winner, though. That honour goes to Johyn McDermott who was 19 years and 315 days old when he won in 1911.

7,213 The length of the course, in yards, at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, site of the 2011 US Open.

2nd Rory McIlroy is only the second European to win the US Open since Tony Jacklin in 1970, the first one being McIlroy's fellow countryman Graeme McDowell last year.

1,440,000 The amount of US dollars McIlroy earned by finishing in first place, an amount that will be dwarfed by the amount of cash he can now expect to earn from endorsements and sponsorship as a result of his win.
