Stuart Pearce’s England U-21 side were sent packing from the European Championships yesterday with one fan turning her attentions before the end of the encounter.

Once again England were humbled and totally outplayed by a vastly superior Norwegian side that not only means they are bottom of group A and eliminated, it seems certain to end Stuart Pearce’s six-year reign in charge.

While they might point to the fact they were without the likes of Jack Rodwell, Phil Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, the Norwegians had to start with four of their best players on the bench after they featured for the senior side in their one-all draw against Albania on Friday night.

The Norwegians were three goals to the good just six minutes after half-time and while West Brom defender Craig Dawson pulled back one from the penalty spot, the result was never in doubt and one Norwegian fan had shifted her attention from the action on the pitch to catch up on her knitting before the full-time whistle. As you do.
