The recession has been hitting hard at home, and we’ve all been affected by it, but according to the latest study, over 300,000 Irish have left the country in the last four years in search of more opportunities abroad, and 40% of them were young people.
The results come form a study conducted by the National Youth Council of Ireland, which also shows that around 50% of those aged between 18-24 are considering emigrating too.
According to RTE News, a quarter of Irish households have had a close family member emigrate also in the last few years, so there’s no doubting that it has become a huge issue for the country as a whole, and not just the younger generation.
As a result of their findings, the National Youth Council are calling on the government to make some plans for the Irish abroad and implement some form of strategy to deal with the numbers leaving.
