Paddy Power punter scoops £71,000 on accumulator, but it was very, very close

You just got to love football accumulators. They give hope of vast riches, before a game, or goal inevitably lets you down, but one lucky guy won big last night.

You just got to love football accumulators. They give hope of vast riches, before a game, or goal inevitably lets you down, but one lucky guy won big last night.

One online Paddy Power customer in Essex won more than £71,000 after his nine game accumulator came through.

He predicted Premier League wins for Man City and Newcastle and three draws, a draw in the Rome derby, wins in La Liga for Valencia and Sevilla and a draw between Getafe and Atletico Madrid, placing £20 on his predictions, which came in at more than 3,500/1.

While any accumulator needs a large degree of luck, he relied on a number of late goals. Valencia and Newcastle scored deep into injury time, Wigan rescued their draw well after the 90 minutes at Loftus Road, while Spurs and Seville also hit late goals in their respective games.

Better late than never as they say, and it will give the rest of us hope that our big pay-out is a matter of time.

Here are the games he chose:

Sevilla v Athletic Bilbao (Sevilla) – 8/13

Roma v Lazio (Draw) – 5/2

Man Utd v Man City (Man City) – 9/4

Valencia v Valladolid (Valencia) – 2/5

QPR v Wigan (Draw) – 12/5

Newcastle v Fulham (Newcastle) – 10/11

Getafe v Atletico Madrid (Draw) – 23/10

Liverpool v West Ham (Draw) – 8/5

Tottenham v Everton (Draw) – 6/4
